Remnants of a Mosque in Venice

When I read about a deconsecrated church in Venice that was converted into a mosque, naturally, I wanted to scope it out.

Sadly, when I got there, a waiter at a restaurant informed me that it had closed down. Although the official reasons cited were that proper permission to open the mosque hadn’t been sought, the waiter told me the opening of the mosque in Venice caused a lot of controversy because it was the first one in recent times, not to mention the looming threat of ISIS only amplified any negative sentiments towards its opening.
