The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the holiest place for Christians in Jerusalem. It is believed that Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected on the site the church is now built.
Few people know that the people who have the keys to the church, aren’t Christian as you would expect; they are in fact Muslim.
In 1192, Salahuddin Ayyubi assigned the custodianship of opening and closing the church to two Muslim Palestinian families; the Joudeh family and the Nusseibeh family.
Over 800 years on even to this day, the Joudeh and Nusseibeh family continue to lock and unlock the doors to the very heart of Christendom.
