Abu Jihad, who has spent all his life in east Jerusalem, runs a small stall in the old city of Jerusalem selling wares and freshly squeezed fruit juices.
Believe it or not, the man does an impeccable cockney London accent. For a moment, he had me convinced he had migrated from London, it really was that good. But it turns out he picked it up from some old English movies he watched.
Completely in awe of his accent, I told him he was the Michael Caine of Jerusalem, and do you know what he said? “I’m not from bloody London. I’m from east Jerusalem, I’m Palestinian.”
I’m still not sure whether to believe him or not. But if you do ever go past his stall, grab a lemon and mint drink from him. It’s divine.
